At Holy Cross Church music continues to be a vital part of worship and entertainment. Our Director of Music, Tim Guntrip identified that as time has gone on, our beautiful Organ needs some expensive maintenance work doing to it hence our 
fundraising Organ Appeal.  The following items need some attention: 

• Full overhaul of mechanical action.  Some wooden rods are broken
• Installation of electrical assistance for the coupling of notes between manuals and pedals.
• Full deep clean of all pipes and infrastructure of the casework
• Regulation of all pipework
• Some tonal changes to undo those altered in 1971.  Currently it's not possible for the organ to play along with an orchestra for instance due to the incorrect tone.
• Installation of a Trombone stop to the Pedal rank
• Lighting to be installed inside the organ chamber
• Safe access walkways to be added so maintenance can be undertaken more easily

Costs, depending on what is done is likely to come in at around £100,000.  To keep the cost down, attempting to undertake some actions in stages are likely to increase the cost and take longer.  Therefore, all actions will be undertaken at the same time so that the Organ is only taken apart once.

We are very grateful to those from outside the Church who have put on social and fundraising events, often for our Organ Appeal.  These include the Ashdown Singers,  Fletching Singers, Uckfield Singers and Uckfield Soul Survivors.

We are lucky that our Organ has stood the test of time well, but it now needs a overhaul to ensure it can continue to support regular Sunday worship, weddings, baptisms and funerals, as well as choral concerts and organ recitals.
